Chaka CrossFit FAQ
We know that choosing the right “box” for you is not an easy decision, there are a lot of factors that come into play. In talking with prospective athletes over the past few weeks these two questions have come up more than once. We decided to address it in a blog post so that all of you could hear our answers in case these were lingering questions for you as well…
1. I’m interested in more Open Gym time, will that be something that Chaka adds in the future?
Well the long and the short of it is we had to start somewhere. Our focus as we open our doors fully on February 1 is our community. We want to build a solid foundation of members who embrace the class atmosphere, it is why we fell in love with CrossFit to begin with. Working out alongside friends and soon to be friends helped motivate us to get fitter and form lifelong friendships, we want to foster that same community at Chaka. We do appreciate that everyone has different goals, and so we have designated an area alongside the main floor with a squat stand, GHD, crossover symmetry, peg board and bike that are free to be used before, during or after class (of course class takes precedence). We just ask that you not “WOD” alongside a class, we agree accessory strength is vital to staying healthy and getting stronger. It’s one of the reasons that we do offer our members access to programming a week ahead of time, so they can plan their extras to flow with the class programming. As far as the afternoon and evening hours expanding, it will happen dependent on our growth as a box and our need to hire more staff members.
2. Since the 5pm and 6pm classes switch between CrossFit and ChakaFit will I be missing out on crucial programming by not taking the CrossFit class every day?
The schedule will undoubtedly evolve over the next few months as we gain members and assess their goals. In the mean time, the approach to the programming has taken into consideration those who may ONLY take CrossFit classes, and those who may ONLY come at one time frame each night. Regardless of the path you choose you will find a balance of strength and energy system training as long as you attend at least 3 days a week. The ChakaFit class will not include a barbell, but you will find that it may look very similar to a “non-barbell” day at CrossFit. “Murph” doesn’t require a barbell and it’s one of CrossFit’s most popular (and killer!) WODs! Did you see that Friday at 5pm we offer both CrossFit and ChakaFit? That workout will be similar for both athletes, but the CrossFit workout may require a barbell and the ChakaFit workout may just substitute a dumbbell or kettlebell, I dare you to try the ChakaFit version on a Friday night!
Have more questions? Don’t hesitate to ask, the only way we can serve our members best is by receiving feedback from them!
